Privacy Policy

Since this site is about privacy – or the unfortunate lack thereof – it is important that we clearly layout for our users what of their personal information is collected and how we protect it.

General Principal

First, any and all information we gather is strictly for our use or for that of our users. It is not otherwise shared with any other entity, pubic or private, for any reason. 

Statistical Data

Our servers (like all web servers) track IP addresses and referring pages as well as some technical information such as browser type and operating system. We also use a third party traffic analysis program which captures the same range of information. In either case, this data is viewed as aggregate anonymous statistics that help us understand our traffic and maintain our website. This information is not used for any other purpose.

Registration Information

If you register for our site and mailing lists, we store the information you give us. Username, email, and password are the minimum required items necessary to use our site and the Journal lists. These are never revealed publicly on the site. If you post to a list, your email (and GPG signature for encrypted lists) may be included in the message header and revealed to other members of the list. 

Passwords

Never use a valuable password on the site, but do use a strong one. Passwords are never stored in a readable format, but a new password can be emailed to you if you request it from the website. Please consider a password mailed to you temporary and compromised. 

Personal Information

You have the option of adding your Name, GPG Public Key, and City (or other info) to your user profile. If you do, this information will be shared only with other subscribers in a password protected area of the website. Sharing this information helps build a Web of Trust allowing secure communication between subscribers.

User Generated Content

If you add content to the website in the Forum or elsewhere on the site, that content is published in the public area of the website and is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 License. Your participaiton is considered to constitute an acceptance of this license. 

Journal Contributions

The content of Journal itself is secret and participants agree to a policy of non-disclosure and non-distribution for the work of others (see Terms). Authors of the Journal retain the copyright of their own material. If you submit content to the journal, your participation is considered to constitute an acceptance of the journal's terms.

Deleting Your Account

To have your account deleted, send a request using the contact form.
